Meeting to Approve the Draft Report of the Project “Survey and Report on the Current State of Environmental Protection in the Construction Sector (Building Materials)”
On 6 June 2018, the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials (VIBM) held an acceptance meeting to approve the draft report of the project “Survey and report on the current state of environmental protection in the construction sector (building materials)”, led by Mr. Do Tien Trung (MSc.). The Science and Technology Council included experts from VIBM, the Vietnam Building Materials Association, the University of Science, the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Science and Technology, the Sub-Institute for New Technology and Environmental Protection, the Vietnam Environment Administration, etc. The Council was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Van Huynh (MSc.) – Deputy Director of VIBM.

In recent years, Viet Nam’s building materials industry has developed continuously and achieved great success in developing production facilities with advanced, modern technologies on a par with the region and developed countries. The main types of building products have basically met social consumption and domestic construction demand, and some building materials (cement, ceramic tiles, glass, etc.) have entered export markets. However, building materials production remains an industry with a high risk of environmental pollution due to potential emissions, so a survey of the current state of environmental protection in the building materials sector is necessary. The objectives of the project are:
- To compile information on the current status of environmental protection in building materials production in accordance with Decree 24a;
- To assess the causes of existing problems and propose solutions to reduce the environmental impact of waste;
- To build an information database on environmental protection at building material production facilities.
The Council requested that the report clearly state the criteria for selecting facilities for direct surveys and the characteristic technologies of each building material product group, in order to identify the points of pollution risk in the production lines; it should also identify good and poor examples of environmental protection for each product group, along with causes and remedies; the conclusions and recommendations should also be revised to closely follow the task content.
The Science and Technology Council unanimously approved the draft report, subject to revisions to its content and structure according to the comments, for submission for ministerial-level acceptance as required.
