Acceptance Meeting for the Draft Standard “Accelerated Leach Test for Diffusive Releases from Solidified Waste”
Solidified wastes used as foundations for works require monitoring and assessment of the diffusion of substances from the waste mass. A standard accelerated leach test method for diffusive releases from solidified waste and a computer program for modelling diffusion are needed to help managers monitor and manage the environment of solidified waste disposal sites.
The draft national standard “Accelerated leach test for diffusive releases from solidified waste and a computer program to model diffusive, fractional leaching from cylindrical waste forms” was compiled by adopting ASTM C1308:2008 (2017). The Science and Technology Council discussed the contents of the draft standard as follows:
- Title: “Accelerated leach test for diffusive releases from solidified waste and a computer program to model diffusive, fractional leaching from cylindrical waste forms”;
- Scope: This standard specifies how to measure the rate of leaching of substances from solidified materials when leaching occurs by mass diffusion, calculate diffusion coefficients based on models, and verify the modelling of long-term diffusive releases. The method applies to all materials that do not disintegrate or deform during testing;
- Referenced documents / Terms and definitions / Intended use / Significance and use / Apparatus / Reagents and materials / Test specimens / Procedure / Expression of results / Precision and bias / Keywords / Annexes / Bibliography.
After discussion, the Institute’s Science and Technology Council unanimously approved the draft TCVN and its explanatory note, subject to revisions and finalisation according to the comments of the Council and experts, for submission to the Ministry of Construction for acceptance as required.
