Attending the seminar on behalf of VIBM were Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep – Director of VIBM; Dr. Luu Thi Hong – Deputy Director of VIBM; Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (MSc.) – Director of the Centre for Equipment, Environment and Occupational Safety (now the Centre for Environment and Construction Mechanics); Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan (MSc.) – Secretary of the VIBM Youth Union; and researchers from VIBM’s specialised units.
Guests included Prof. Ngo Tuan – University of Melbourne (Australia), the keynote speaker of the seminar; Mr. Nguyen Van Lan – Senior Expert, International Finance Corporation (IFC); Ms. Vu Tuong Anh – International Finance Corporation (IFC); Dr. Trieu Viet Phuong – Acting Director of the Vietnam Standards and Quality Institute; and Mr. Tran Phuong – Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep – Director of VIBM, delivering the opening speech
In his opening speech, Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep affirmed that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an inevitable trend for all countries and production sectors, including building materials production. He hoped that through the seminar, VIBM researchers would gain specific directions and solutions to develop initiatives and seek suitable services or financial resources to pursue emission-reduction solutions for the building materials sector.
At the seminar, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (MSc.) – Director of the Centre – gave a presentation on “Current status and potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in building materials production in Viet Nam”. The presentation attracted great interest from participants and prompted many questions and discussions on recommendations and solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in building materials production in Viet Nam.
Also at the seminar, Prof. Ngo Tuan – University of Melbourne (Australia) – presented “Emission reduction for the building materials sector – current status and global trends” . He also shared very practical and useful information about training programmes and support policies of the Australian Government for VIBM researchers.
Closing the seminar, Dr. Luu Thi Hong thanked Prof. Ngo Tuan and expressed her wish to strengthen development and connections, enhancing opportunities for research and training cooperation between VIBM and the University of Melbourne in particular and Australia in general.
