VIBM Works with the Japan Housing and Building Materials Industry Association (J-CHIF)

Attending the meeting on the Vietnamese side were Deputy Director Nguyen Van Huynh and staff of the Centre for Organic Materials and Construction Chemicals, the Centre for Equipment, Environment and Occupational Safety (now the Centre for Environment and Construction Mechanics), and the Centre for Information – Standards – International Cooperation; on the Japanese side were Mr Toichi Nakazawa, Head of International Cooperation of J-CHIF, and representatives of the LIXIL Group and the Japan Paint Manufacturers Association.
Mr Hiroyuki Ishizumi, representing the Japan Paint Manufacturers Association, introduced JIS K 5602 (determination of the solar reflectance of paint films), currently applied in Japan. He also summarised the results of weathering resistance assessments by outdoor exposure of solar-reflective paints under real conditions in Vietnam. These findings are of scientific and practical value to Vietnamese researchers in developing test methods and evaluating the weathering durability of solar-reflective paints.
On the thermal performance of windows, Mr Osamu Ogawa, representing the LIXIL Group, presented Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), compared JIS with current international standards and described methods for evaluating window thermal performance. He also introduced and explained the WindEye calculation software, which is widely used in Japan. With this information, Vietnam can learn from and apply Japan’s scientific and technological advances to develop an accurate, convenient and easy-to-use interface for calculating and evaluating window thermal performance, similar to WindEye.
The meeting between VIBM and J-CHIF achieved important results for developing and applying standards for solar-reflective paints and window thermal performance.
