Workshop on the Roadmap for Developing Viet Nam’s System of Standards for Building Materials and the Built Environment
Overview of the workshop
On the Vietnamese side were Mr. Nguyen Cong Thinh – Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology; Mr. Nguyen Van Bac – Deputy Director of the Department of Building Materials; Mr. Luong Duc Long – Director of the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials; Ms. Luu Thi Hong – Deputy Director of the Institute; and representatives of research institutes, professional associations, provincial Departments of Construction, universities and Vietnamese enterprises.
On behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Mr. Nguyen Cong Thinh opened the workshop and outlined the implementation of National Technical Regulation QCVN 09:2013/BXD on energy-efficient buildings and the challenges in applying it.
For the Institute, Mr. Nguyen Van Doan – Head of the Planning and Technical Department – reported on the “Overview of the master plan for developing standards in the field of building materials and the built environment in Viet Nam to 2020, with orientation to 2030”.
For PNNL, Mr. Peter Lyons and Ms. Sha Yu presented the “System of standards for test methods and evaluation of energy-efficient windows, and application of QCVN 09:2013/BXD on energy-efficient buildings”.
The workshop devoted time to a discussion of issues such as practices for testing, classifying and labelling energy-efficient building material products, and the difficulties and challenges regarding awareness, funding, equipment, human resources and the organisations involved…
Previously, on 25–26 August 2015 at the Institute, USAID and PNNL, in cooperation with the Institute, organised a training course on window simulation software and introduced standards and testing equipment for glass and window systems. The course attracted the interest of many enterprises, universities, research institutes, Departments of Construction, the Building Materials Association, the Environment Association, etc.
The workshop and training course helped improve understanding of standards, equipment and test methods for energy-efficient glass and window systems, as well as methods for evaluating energy-efficient buildings.
