Consultation Workshop on Developing the “Guidelines for Environmental Protection in Cement Production”

The document “Guidelines for environmental protection in cement production” was developed to present measures for minimising, treating and managing waste generated during cement production, with the following objectives:
- – Minimising pollution at source;
- – Thoroughly treating waste sources in a manner suited to the economic conditions of production facilities, meeting the requirements of the Law on Environmental Protection, minimising negative environmental impacts and ensuring sustainable development;
– Improving and applying suitable new technologies that ensure product quality and the interests of production facilities.
The document is based on surveys and assessments of the current production technology and environmental status of a number of production facilities, as well as information collected on site. The expert team also consulted relevant specialised literature, organised workshops to gather expert opinions, and inherited and developed existing environmental protection solutions.
At the workshop, two representatives from Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM) and Song Thao Cement Plant (Phu Tho) presented the solutions implemented and being implemented for environmental protection in production at their plants and subsidiaries.
The workshop received many comments on effective measures currently applied by cement plants. This provides a basis for the expert team to develop and revise the guidelines in a consistent structure with the most accurate and reasonable information. The “Guidelines for environmental protection in cement production” are expected to be accepted at the end of 2015.
