VIBM Works with the School of Environmental Science and Engineering – Kochi University of Technology, Japan (KUT)

During the working session, Professor Nagatoshi Nishiwaki, representing the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, introduced the equipment, machinery and research fields at KUT. The main equipment includes EPMA, GC-MS, HPLC, X-ray, SEM, TEM, DSC… Professor Nishiwaki also introduced the full scholarship programme for doctoral students and expressed his pleasure in welcoming candidates from VIBM or elsewhere in Viet Nam.
VIBM’s representative thanked KUT for its support to VIBM over the years and expressed the wish to further expand cooperation in the next phase.
At the end of the session, the VIBM delegation visited the laboratories and campus and heard the university president share his wish to strengthen cooperation between KUT and VIBM.
Since 2019, the Centre for Equipment, Environment and Occupational Safety (now the Centre for Environment and Construction Mechanics), Vietnam Institute for Building Materials (VIBM), has tested concrete corrosion control coatings for the “Yen Xa Drainage System Project, Hanoi – Package 2: Construction of the To Lich River enclosure system and main sewer line”, including the sulphate penetration index through protective coatings on concrete. Vietnamese standards do not yet specify this index, and no domestic laboratory performs this test. Kochi University of Technology (Japan) – KUT – is a reputable university in education, research and testing in Japan, with full facilities, equipment and expertise to determine sulphate penetration through protective coatings on concrete specimens. VIBM therefore entered into a non-profit cooperation agreement with KUT to determine sulphate penetration through protective coatings on concrete specimens.
