Acceptance of Draft TCVN “Protection Against Pollution of Potable Water in Installations and General Requirements of Devices to Prevent Pollution by Backflow”
Water supply devices on the market are highly diverse in type and manufacturer, but there is currently no national standard on technical requirements for backflow prevention devices to prevent pollution in water supply systems.
The draft national standard “Protection against pollution of potable water in installations and general requirements of devices to prevent pollution by backflow” was compiled by adopting BS EN 1717:2001. The Science and Technology Council discussed the contents of the draft standard as follows:
- Title: changed to “Protection against pollution of potable water in water supply systems and general requirements of devices to prevent pollution by backflow”;
- Scope: The standard applies to devices used to prevent pollution of potable water in buildings and sets out general requirements for protection devices to prevent pollution by backflow.
- Normative references / Terms and definitions / Pollution of potable water: general observations / Method of risk analysis at the point of use and selection of protection / Point-of-use protection devices for domestic water supply / Point-of-use special protection devices for non-domestic use / Protection devices at the connection to the public water supply / Air gaps / Annexes / Bibliography.
After discussion, the Institute’s Science and Technology Council highly appreciated the efforts of the project team and unanimously approved the draft TCVN, subject to revisions and finalisation according to the comments of the Council and experts, for submission to the Ministry of Construction for acceptance as required.
